Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga on Sunday elicited a lot of reactions from Kenyans after taking a swipe at the embattled Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko in the Kamba dialect.
The Nairobi governor had admitted to garbage being a major problem in the city and asked Nairobians to give him time to clean up the mess he apparently inherited from the previous county administration.
But the former Chief Justice broke his silence when the flamboyant governor revealed his plans to travel to Dubai to benchmark on garbage collection.

“I admit that garbage collection is a menace. I am telling Nairobi that Sonko wants to fulfill his pledges. I want to benchmark with Dubai,” Sonko stated.
The message rubbed Dr Mutunga the wrong way who used his mother tongue,in a tweet, to criticize Governor Sonko for habouring the idea of going to a foreign country to benchmark a local problem.
“We Mbuvi ni wisi takataka yiiva Ilovi withi Dubai kwika ata mwa? (Mbuvi, you know the garbage is here in Nairobi what are you going to do in Dubai?),” Mutunga posed.
The former Chief Justice’s tweet elicited a lot of reactions, with many Kenyans supporting his message.
Prominent Lawyer Ahmednasir Adullahi, who recently exchanged bitter words with the city boss, lauded Dr Mutunga for conveying his message in Kamba ,which also happens to be Mr Sonko’s mother tongue.
“Thanks CJ for explaining the issued in his mother tongue…I hope even in that regard you used very simple words…,” Abdullahi stated.
