Controversial political pundit Prof Mutahi Ngunyi has remarked that President Uhuru Kenyatta was behind the decision by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to nominate lawyer Miguna Miguna as his deputy.
In his weekly analysis at a show dubbed the Fifth Estate, Mr ngunyi ,together with his young scholars from Fort Hall School of Government, stated that the Head of State suggested to Mike Sonko to choose the embattled National Resistance Movement (NRM) general as a replacement for Polycarp Igathe.
“Uhuru is a man of mystery…This Miguna proposal has Uhuru Kenyatta written all over it.And it all started in Solai last week.According to Duale,Uhuru and Sonko flew in the same helicopter to the Solai funeral, and the flew back to Nairobi together. Then from nowhere,Sonko did the unthinkable that night. He nominated Miguna.and so we ask,was these a concidence?”One of the scholars posed.
“But there is one more thing, after the Solai funeral there was a story claiming that Uhuru did not greet Sonko at the funeral. If they were together in the air,why greet Sonko when they land?In our view this story was fabricated as a decoy. It was meant to create the impression that there was distance between Sonko and Uhuru. This way the Miguna nomination agreed upon in the air would be dismissed as a mischief.”She remarked.
The scholars stated that by giving Miguna the position, he was set on his way to inheriting Raila as the leader of the Luo nation.
“Miguna is not the project here. The project is the Raila succession, and Miguna is the lucky vehicle engineered to inherit Raila.”Another scholar opined.
“Making him deputy governor therefore, is a stepping stone to creating him as the new leader of the Luo Nation. It is that simple,” he explained.
One of the analysts further observed that if Miguna’s name were to be presented to the Nairobi county assembly for approval, he would definitely sail through.
“ODM MCAs who are 40% of the House would have no problem voting for Miguna while Jubilee’s votes would be split their 60% with half opposing the appointment. With the other half and together with ODM’s 40″, Miguna’s nomination would be approved with a two-thirds majority,” one of the scholars analyzed.
Prof Ngunyi ,on his part, asked Dr Miguna to accept the offer to deputize Sonko.

“Change happens when there is a unity of opposites. In fact, a team of rivals tends to accomplish more than a team of friends, and this is a fact of history.”He observed.
“Uhuru and Ruto were on opposite sides in the 2007 election. The two opposites sides would yield a relationship in 2013”
“Similary the handshake is the unity of all opposites,”
“Although people look at Sonko as a joke, his nomination of Miguna tells us that he is the bigger man. It is now up to Miguna to inherit Raila by embracing him not by heckling him. The nomination is Miguna’s path to succeeding Raila,” he opined.
