When the self-proclaimed NRM ‘general’ Miguna Miguna was prevented from entering the country at the JKIA, NASA leader Raila Odinga rushed to the airport with Senator James Orengo and Jimi Wanjigi among others.
Odinga was however humiliated by police officers at the airport as he helplessly watched as Miguna getting bungled into a Dubai bound plane.
A day after the standoff, reports by The Standard indicate that Mr Odinga actually phoned President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene in the matter.

Senator Orengo and Mr Wanjigi among others, also attempted to reach out to the Head of State on the phone when Raila arrived at the airport.
According to Raila’s allies, who confided to The Standard, the NASA chief was unable to get through to the President’s line. But he reportedly found the Head of State through an aide-The President told Raila he would look into the matter immediately.
“As if someone was monitoring the conversation, immediately Raila ended the call, a team of plainclothes policemen arrived and violently bundled Miguna out from where he was standing, in full glare of the lawyers and Raila himself,” added the source.
But yet another source, who was also with Raila at the airport, said the former premier called Uhuru before he left for the airport and the President assured that the “small matter” would be sorted out.

One of the allies further observed that it was a wrong move by the former Premier to visit the airport.
“He shouldn’t have gone to the airport. People have started questioning whether the handshake was a charade. The scenes were humiliating to a person of his stature,” said the official.
Miguna was re-deported to Dubai where is currently receiving treatment at a Dubai hospital.
