President Uhuru Kenyatta was conspicuously missing in today’s meeting with the Independent Electoral & Boundaries Commission officials but sent DP William Ruto instead, despite direction that candidates appear in person.
DP Ruto arrived at Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi at 4:15pm on Tuesday,3rd October, with Senate majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen and National Assembly majority Aden Duale.

While the IEBC expected the two candidates to attend the meeting , President Uhuru Kenyatta did not show up but had instead gone to attend the burial of MP Victor Munyaka of Machakos Town.
Deputy Governor of Machakos,Eng Francis Maliti ,shared the details on social media.

@UKenyatta,@WilliamsRuto &@MikeSonko attending a burial ceremony of the father to Machakos Town MP Hon. Dr. Victor Munyaka.”Mr Maliti said,captioned by the photo below.
It is however not clear when the funeral ceremony ended and also when DP Ruto was released to attend the IEBC meeting on behalf of President Uhuru.

Last week, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati asked the presidential candidates to attend the meeting in person instead of sending representatives.
