President Uhuru Kenyatta’s second term in office has began in earnest with the appointment of senior officers and technocrats in his Cabinet.
Among those appointed is Edward Njoroge Mbugua as Acting Deputy Inspector General of Kenya Police Service.
Mr. Mbugua, who once served as the Mombasa County Commander, has been the head of the Presidential Security Escort Commander.

“By the powers conferred to me and after a wider consultation by the National police Service Commission and Inspector General and Police regulation as in the National Police Act of 2015, I hereby appoint Edward Njoroge Mbugua to position of Acting Deputy Inspector General of Police,” the president said in an address to the public.
Mbugua was appointed alongside Mr Nur Yarao Gabao as acting Inspector General of Administration Police Service and Mr George Kinoti Mainge as acting Director of Directorate of Criminal Investigations,pending a vetting exercise.
The President is allocated a team of 200 security officers drawn from the General Service Unit. At least 200 more officers are deployed whenever a Head of State visits the country.
Kenyatta retained 6 cabinet secretaries while at the same time announced three new cabinet secretaries who are yet to be allocated ministries.
