The US administration has reached out to President Uhuru Kenyatta and his political adversary Raila Odinga in a bid to find viable solutions to the contentious issues ahead of October 26th presidential poll.
The move has been necessitated after President Uhuru and Mr Odinga seem to have adopted hardliner stances on any issues regarding the upcoming election.

The Opposition leader has maintained the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) CEO Ezra Chiloba must resign and vowed not to participate in the upcoming polls if his ‘irreducible minimum’ demands are not met.
On the other hand, President Uhuru has insisted that the repeat elections will be held on the date set by the electoral agency and will not be changed by whatever reason.

Through, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary at the US government’s Bureau of African Affairs ,Donald Yamamoto, stated that US would not take their eyes off Kenya, the Nation reports.

“We’re not going to take our eyes away from it. Kenya matters. If our largest embassy is in Nairobi, Kenya, that means we have a stake in that country, and Africa has a stake, and this government is looking at where the trend lines will go after the polls,” the bureau said on Sunday, September 17 as quoted by The Daily Nation.
Yamamoto is pushing for both candidates to hold talks and iron out sticky issues ahead of the repeat polls.
