Sunday Nation newspaper was on Monday forced to apologise to Deputy President William Ruto and two billionaire businessmen of Asian decent for wrongly using their photo.
The newspaper had on Sunday written an extensive story alleging that the Deputy President was among close friends of sugar baron Jaswant Rai.

It went on to report that Ruto, alongside National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, had spent an entire day at the wedding of Jaswant’s son Tejveer.
However, the photo used of the DP attending the purported wedding wrongly identified another businessman, Jas Bedi, as Jaswant.
“A caption accompanying the picture wrongly identified Mr Bedi as Mr Jaswant Rai. This is to clarify that the picture was taken at a different function and had nothing to do with the sugar business. We take this early opportunity to apologise to the Deputy President, Mr Duale, Mr Bedi, and Mr Rai for the mix-up and misrepresentation,” the apology read in part.
The apology, however, did not touch on the claim on the story that Ruto had, last year, spent an entire day at Tajveer’s wedding.
kenyanwiki independently established that contrary to the Nation’s claim that Tajveer wedded in 2017, the wedding actually took place in 2011.

However, another of the sugar tycoon’s son, Rajbir wedded in December 2016 at a ceremony where both Ruto and Duale were present.
“What God has joined let no man put asunder. During the wedding of Gavneet Chatthe and Rajbir Rai, Westlands, Nairobi County,” Ruto tweeted after attending Rajbir’s sikh wedding.
