The Standard Newspaper have declined to apologize to Justice Isaac Lenaola after he threatened to sue them on a story they published that linked him with gross judicial misconducts.
In a letter, through his lawyer Donald Kipkorir, Justice Lenaola demanded immediate apology from The Standard Media Group over a story the newspaper published on September 19 on a petition filed by Derrick Malika Ngumu to the JSC alleging that he had clandestine meetings with NASA lawyers during the hearing of Raila Odinga’s Presidential petition at the Supreme court.
Through their lawyers ,The Standard Group said that judge Lenaola has a right under section 7(2) of the defamation Act to explain and contradict any allegations that affect him.

The Standard allowed Justice Lenaola to publish a contradictory statement contrary to the one made.
The local daily explained that they only publised the story as was in the petition by Derrick Malika Ngumu and that they had no ill intention whatsoever to taint the name of the judge.

They further said that the legally published the story as it was a matter of Public interest.
