Embattled Nairobi city boss Mike Mbuvi Sonko has finally acknowledged receipt of Polycarp Igathe’s resignation letter, a statement from his office read.
In the statement released on Friday evening, the flamboyant Governor stated that he is yet to carefully consider the matter in view of the unexpected capitulation of his deputy.
“The Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has received a letter of resignation from Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe. The Governor is considering the letter and will issue a comprehensive statement later,” read the statement from Nairobi City County.
Here is a look at the statement ;
Speaking to a popular online magazine, Sonko’s Communications Officer, Joab Mwaura, said the Governor had no clue his deputy was planning to quit.
“We learnt of his resignation through the media before receiving the letter. Mr Igathe had not indicated any discontentment before the events of today (Friday) which makes his decision a surprise.
“As stated, Governor Sonko will establish the facts and give his considered view as soon as possible,” Mr Mwaura told the Magazine.
Through his official Twitter handle, Mr Igathe revealed ,among many things,he had failed to earn the trust of Governor Mike Sonko to enable him work at the county effectively.
He further expressed regret for having failed to keep up to the promises he and his boss made to Nairobians before they were elected,something that his conscience would not allow him to sit around and abuse his oath of office.
