Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has defended his selection of Miguna Miguna for Deputy Governor, and at the same time issued a heated response to Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja over his comments on his surprising choice.
In a phone interview with Citizen TV, Sonko refers to the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga being the reason that inspired his least expected decision.

“Si uwongo … ni ukweli kwa sababu…in the spirit of the so-called handshake and reconciliation, peace and forgiveness, mimi sioni makosa kubwa ambayo Miguna, hata kama sijamconsult, amefanya ,” he says.
Regarding Senator Johnson Sakaja, who termed the nomination a joke, Sonko stated he has no moral authority to lecture him on his choice.
He also said the Nairobi Senator should not forgot that he at some point helped Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino, even though Jubilee Party politicians went against him.
“..Ata achana uyu Senator wangu…anasahau ata yeye alienda kusaidia Babu..Jubilee yote was against him..Nimechagua Miguna anaanza kunipiga vita..”Sonko said
“Oh Governors should be serious … serious what? Miguna should also be forgiven. There is nobody Miguna abused as much as be abused Governor Sonko.”the Governor added.
