Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has given his opinion regarding the alleged plan by the Jubilee party to impeach Governor Mike Sonko.
According to Sakaja: “No plan to impeach Mike Sonko will work. It is to early to pass such fatal judgment.”
“What we want is what all Nairobians want; Service delivery. We will support him to accomplish that,” Sakaja indicated.
Sakaja indicated that people should not confuse the opposition to Miguna Miguna‘s appointment as an intention to remove Sonko from office.
“Let no one take advantage of our misgivings on his choice of Deputy Governor. That is a different matter,” Sakaja stated.
Put to task whether he will support Sonko if the only way to accomplish service delivery was through having Miguna as the Deputy Governor, Sakaja answered in the affirmative.
Sakaja further elaborated that supporting Sonko does not mean agreeing with everything or not having an opinion.
On his part, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen stated that: “Sonko needs our support and partnership, not wholesale condemnation and blame.
“The Constitution requires consultation and cooperation between county and national government and not confrontations and conflict.
“As the Senate, we will protect and defend counties and county governments all times,” Senator Murkomen indicated.
Earlier on, Nairobi Members of County Assembly (MCAs) dismissed calls by Jubilee Party vice-chairman David Murathe for the impeachment of Governor Sonko.
Speaking on Friday during a press conference at City Hall, the MCAs said they will not impeach Sonko as claimed.
Led by Assembly Majority Leader Abdi Guyo and Majority Chief Whip Mwaura Chege the MCAs denied claims by Murathe that the ruling party was scheming to impeach Sonko.
The MCAs stated that there is lack of sufficient grounds to warrant a move to impeach of Sonko further indicating that Sonko should be allowed more time to implement his promises to Nairobians.
“We have no intentions to impeach Governor Sonko as claimed by Murathe, the Governor has a contract of five years with the electorates who voted for him,” Guyo stated.
