Former Independent Electoral & Boundaries Commission (IEBC) senior employee Roselyn Akombe would now be considering taking up a new job offer here in Kenya barely months after resuming her plum UN job.
The outspoken commissioner took the nation by surprise when she quit her job days to the October 26th repeat Presidential poll.
Back at her rural home in Nyamira county, a group of professionals now want her to be their next county Governor.
They have asked her to come back as soon as possible in order to prepare to contest for the Nyamira gubernatorial seat in the coming 2022 general elections.
“Our county is now being managed by dishonest individuals whose main aim is to make money. We want Akombe to come back home for these divine duty,” said Stephen Mwancha, Secretary General for Nyamira Professional Association.
“What we need is integrity and honesty. What Akombe did manifested how competent she is in handling public affairs thus suitable for gubernatorial job.”He added.
Lately,Governor John Nyagarama has been under immense pressure to quit in what residents say is inability to spur growth due to ongoing infighting within the county.
This is despite that fact that he’s currently in the United States undergoing specialized treatment over failing limbs while his son, Ndemo Nyagarama,is at the moment at Nairobi Hospital under life support due to worsening health condition.
Although a section of leaders from Nyamira County have asked locals to support and pray for the family of the second-term Governor following his family’s misfortunes,it does change the fact that they are not ok with his style of leadership.
Akombe’s endorsement comes as the electoral body she was working at has been under immense woes.
Colleagues she left at the commission-vice chair Consolata Nkatha,Paul Kurgat and Margaret Mwachanya- have since resigned over what they termed as poor leadership from their chair Wafula Chebukati.
