Sources close to Nation intimated that President Kenyatta and DP Ruto held a lengthy meeting a day before (on Thursday,8th March) to muse over the decision.

It is then a deal was reached that the president reaches out to the opposition chief himself to set up a meeting.

President Uhuru placed a call to Odinga scheduling a meeting Friday morning at his Harambee House office.

Three night prior to the talks, meetings and direct phone calls between the President and Raila reportedly set the stage for the surprise ceasefire address to the nation.

The last meeting is said to have happened at a senior Judiciary official’s home where the deal was sealed.

The talks involved only a select few, with members of both the Kenyatta and Odinga family involved in developing the final document.

National Assembly Minority Whip Junet Mohammed played the role of Raila’s messenger, which explains his presence at Harambee House on Friday.

The only other members of Raila’s entourage were spokesman Dennis Onyango, his daughter Winnie Odinga, lawyer Paul Mwangi and Andrew Mondoh, a former Permanent Secretary for Special Programmes in the Kibaki-Raila coalition government.

While the deal restores Raila to statesmanship ,to say the least, for Uhuru it will be another masterstroke after successfully forging a coalition in 2013 with Ruto from the bitterness of the 2008 post-election violence crisis that mainly pitted the Kikuyu and Kalenjin communities.
