In a tweet NPS confirmed:
“The Police officer captured on a video clip assaulting an individual has been positively identified and is being processed for disciplinary action.”
According to CitizenTV, the victim, identified as Brian Ogutu, is an employee at Print Pak which is located several metres from the scene of the incident.
The man is said to have differed with another man who was in possession of iron rods along Likoni Road and a confrontation ensued which led to the two arguing before hell broke loose.
According to eye witnesses, the officer was angered after the suspect in the video hurled a stone at a moving car during the confrontation.
That is when the officer got hold of him and began assaulting him.
The family of the victim told Citizen that he was taken to Makongeni Police Station before being released to seek medical attention.
They said he has since been discharged from hospital and is recuperating from home.
Speaking to Citizen on phone,Police Spokesperson Charles Owino urged Mr Ogutu to present himself to the Nairobi Area Police Commander and in the event he may feel intimidated or fearful, to present himself at Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to record a statement.
This will enable the prosecution of the officer involved and subsequent trial in a court of law, he added.
