Revealed: Seven ministers likely to be retained in Uhuru’s cabinet

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy, William Ruto, are expected to unveil their new Cabinet soon, and according to Jubilee Vice Chair David Murathe,a few incumbent Cabinet Secretaries are likely to retain their jobs.

With President Kenyatta keen to cement his legacy, Mr Murathe has clarified that under performing Cabinet Secretaries shall be shown the exit door.

“There are those who shall survive while some who under-performed shall exit. He wants to cement his legacy,” Murathe told reporters.

Intensive lobbying is currently taking place behind the scenes with at least 12 politicians expected to be shortlisted.

Sources close to State House and privy to The Standard confide that 11 Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) and 19 Principal Secretaries (PSs) could be jobless in the next two weeks.
A top Jubilee lawyer who spoke to The Digital Standard in confidence due to sensitivity of the matter however said a good number of CSs shall be retained by the Head Of State.

“We are not going to have many surprises because a number of Cabinet Secretaries shall be retained,” he said.

Those poised to survive include;

  • Fred Matiang’i,
  • Amina Mohammed,
  • Mwangi Kiunjuri,
  • Cecily Kariuki,
  • Najib Balala,
  • Henry Rotich and
  • Charles Keter.

Nominees for cabinet could be held a little longer periods due to pressure to include the opposition in government.
