Raila in Zanzibar as Supreme Court upholds Uhuru’s Victory

It’s been confirmed that NASA leader Raila Odinga left the country for Zanzibar on Sunday evening ahead of the highly anticipated Supreme Court ruling.

in an exclusive interview with New York Times,Raila’s longtime ally and friend,Salim Lone,revealed.

“The unrest pushed Mr Odinga out of the country. He left Kenya on Sunday night, according to Salim Lone, a longtime adviser to Mr Odinga and his political party. He is now in Zanzibar, off the coast of mainland Tanzania, Mr. Lone said as reported by NYT.

On Monday, the seven-bench judge upheld President Kenyatta’s win of the October 26 election.

In a summary judgment read by Chief Justice David Maraga, the justices unanimously dismissed the two petitions, filed by former assistant minister Harun Mwau and another by Njonjo Mue and Khelef Khalifa, on merited but not on substantive issues raised in the petitions.

“The court has unanimously determined that the petitions are not merited,” Justice Maraga said.

“As a consequence, the presidential election of 26th of October is hereby upheld.”

Jubilee supporters broke into celebrations in towns in towns perceived to be Uhuru’s strongholds.

Mr Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto will be sworn in on Tuesday November 28.
