NASA presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga paused Jubilee’s early celebrations by holding a two hour meeting with the IEBC bosses to stop what was set to be the declaration of presidential results.
Everything was put into place and state operatives had literally taken over the National Tallying Center at the Bomas of Kenya.
President Uhuru Kenyatta was expected to arrive moments later, after the IEBC chairman,Wafula Chebukati promised to address the nation at around 2.30pm.
However at around 1pm, Raila, his NASA co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi cruised to Bomas and headed straight into an exclusive meeting with the IEBC chiefs.
Sources close to The Star privy disclosed that IEBC chief executive Ezra Chiloba, perceived by NASA as Jubilee poster boy, was locked out of the meeting.
US Ambassador Robert Godec tried to ‘gatecrash’ the meeting but left almost immediately.
It is understood the NASA brigade was uncomfortable with Godec’s presence in the meeting.
However, the NASA team later disclosed they separately met diplomats and religious leaders to explain their position.
But after a nearly two-hour closed-door meeting with the IEBC,less progress was made since the commissioners shot down each and every sentiments raised by the opposition. It was apparent that the IEBC would go on with the declaration of presidential results.
The Star‘s sources who attended the meeting disclosed further that Raila warned the IEBC chairman to take his time, avoid rushing and ensure the ultimate results are accurate.
At a press conference on Wednesday,10th August, the opposition team demanded that the IEBC make public the data in its computer servers and promised to go by its verdict if the commission did so.
