Speaking during NTV’s morning show, Maalim distanced himself from the upcoming ceremony, arguing that the exercise would attract unnecessary confrontation with the country’s security apparatus.
The former House deputy speaker said ,as a lawyer, he is keen on having the country’s political impasse solved through a constitutional means.
“I am somebody who has a legal background and I would like to uphold the law. I have not been part of the process or agreement that finally came into pushing for the swearing-in,” Maalim said.
Makueni senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr, when asked by The Star if Odinga’s swearing-in would take place, he said:
“It cannot happen”.
Kilonzo also indicated NASA deputy leader Kalonzo will not be available for the fete, slated for December 12th.
“No,” he replied in a text when asked if his Party leader was planning to attend the event.
Nyando MP Jared Okelo (ODM) dismissed Maalim’s sentiments as a ‘job -hunting tactic’ and maintained the ceremony will take place as planned.
