Details have emerged that the National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga intends to seek further directions from the Supreme Court on the October 26th poll following his decision to pull out of the race.

Kenyatta and Odinga were due to repeat the polls following Supreme Court’s decision to annul Uhuru’s win in the August 8th election, citing illegalities and procedural irregularities.

But Mr Odinga’s dramatic withdrawal this week has thrown the country into political uncertainty.

“If it goes ahead it is not an election, it is a selection,” Odinga told Reuters in an interview as reported by The Star Newspaper.

“This must be done right in the interest of electoral democracy in our country.

As far as we are concerned, the elections are cancelled and we expect that the IEBC will return to the process of nominations shortly,” Odinga said.

Raila argued that his withdrawal from the race meant the poll had been “cancelled” and there should be fresh nominations.

He said that based on a 2013 Supreme Court ruling, the IEBC now had 90 days to accept new nominations in preparation for fresh Presidential election.

On Wednesday, however, the IEBC insisted the repeat polls would be held as planned and gazetted names of seven  candidates to be on the ballot.
