Raila Changes His Mind on his initial stand to boycott elections

National Super Alliance (Nasa) leader Raila Odinga has changed his mind on his earlier decision to boycott the repeat Presidential election scheduled to take place on 17th October.

He clarified the opposition coalition will not boycott the repeat presidential poll but insisted they will participate only after the electoral agency addresses a number of issues they have raised.

The former PM stated that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is not able to conduct the October 17 poll as currently constituted.

During an interview with KTN on Tuesday night,he said that for the election to be transparent, their issues must be addressed.

“We are not boycotting the election. We said we want to participate but under certain conditions that will ensure the election will be free, fair and credible,” Mr Odinga said.

Nasa had on Tuesday called for the sacking of IEBC chief executive Ezra Chiloba before they could participate in the repeat polls

In the interview, Mr Odinga said should they not participate, the election will be “a Jubilee affair” but added there is sufficient time for IEBC to make proper amendments.

The former prime minister, however, remained coy on whether he would call for mass demonstrations if IEBC does not address their concerns maintaining, “we will deal with that when time comes.”
