Police Shoot In The Air While Escorting What Is Believed To Be Ballot Papers In Migori

Anxiety engulfed the people of Migori county for the better part of today after Police Officers caused a ‘curfew’ while escorting vehicles believed to carry voting materials for Tomorrow’s poll exercise.

In a viral video circulating on social media(Above),the Police, in military fatigue, are seen escorting a convoy of vehicles said to be carrying ballot papers to an unknown destination.

The roads look clear of any civilian but the officers could not stop shooting in the air in a bid to scare whoever crosses their path.

This comes after the Police revised their security plans to match new threats to Thursday’s poll, which have been occasioned by calls for a boycott.

Unlike in the August 8 elections, police will give priority to protection of voters to ensure they are not attacked by those opposing the presidential poll.

Police have also said they will priorities protection of electoral officials and securing of polling stations and materials, areas which have also been identified as the new threats.

Police have also identified electoral violence hotspots, saying some are considered “critical”, while others will be under “close scrutiny”.

Heavier deployment than what is even seen in that video is expected in Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori, parts of Nairobi as well as Mombasa and other parts of the Coast, which have been identified as chaos hotspots
