Orengo’s Answer on Whether He Shall Step Down For His New Senate Seat

Siaya Senator James Orengo has denied claims that he selfishly grabbed the Minority leader position from Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula.

Wiper leader Stephen Kalonzo, on Tuesday during a presser, called upon the Siaya Senator not to take up the new senate role for the sake of NASA unity.

Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV on Tuesday night, the Siaya Senator said the decision was not an individual’s but by the parliamentary group, a body he adds is mandated to take such steps.

Answering whether he will decline the new seat as per Kalonzo’s plea,Mr Orengo described the change in House leadership as work in progress and that he will accept the role of minority leader after all NASA co-principals deliberate and come up with the final decision on the matter.

“Before I sit on the seat, I have to give space to the principals to go through what has taken place.”

He also termed Kalonzo’s claim that NASA will collapse following Wetangula’s ouster as an ‘”overstatement”.

On rumors by Wetang’ula that the ouster was planned behind the Bungoma Senator’s back, Orengo said the events were after extensive lobbying since last year.

He clarified that Tuesday’s events were presided over by Senators from all the coalition’s parties, hence is not an ODM affair.

Orengo attributed his choice for the seat to the work he has done in the Opposition alliance in defending the coalition members adding that he never invited the senators to a meeting to ask for the seat.
