ODM For Once Declares Support For Ruto’s Initiative

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party on Tuesday declared support for the Forestry Task Force commissioned by Deputy President (DP) William Ruto.

In a statement, ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna said that the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) had seen the importance of the task force and urged the Jubilee government to fully execute the report that it will prepare.

“The NEC welcomes the move by the government to set a team to look into the question of environmental degradation, especially within our forests.

“We as a party hope that this was not a public relations exercise and urge that the report of that task force be implemented fully,” the party official stated.

The Orange party further urged its members to take part in tree planting initiatives to restore the diminishing forest cover in the country.

Mr Sifuna delivered the statement after a two-day retreat of the party’s governing council where six resolutions were passed.

The party leaders also urged Kenyans to dedicate themselves to the Building Bridges reconciliation and nation building initiative and to ignore politicians popularizing 2022 politics.

“Members were encouraged to speak the truth frankly and boldly. They have been implored not to reduce such a historic event as the handshake that pulled the country from the precipice to the cusp of a new dawn to trivialities such as the 2022 election,” Sifuna stated.

The secretary-general also conveyed that the party would embark on filling vacant positions in its various branches countrywide.
