Fresh details emerge in Embakasi East Vote Recount

Contradicting details have emerged over the the final results on recount of Embakasi East parliamentary votes.

The recount was ordered by the court after Jubilee candidate Francis Mureith challenged the victory of his opponent Babu Owino of ODM.

The recount was finalised on Monday, February 19.

Babu Owino had earlier on taken to social media to announce he had won the contest for the second time by garnering 46,813 votes while his political foe Francis Mureithi had 42475 votes.

However, minutes later, his opponent Francis Mureithi gave a different angle to the whole story.

“We have ballot boxes missing from six polling stations and cannot be found, Form 35A missing for over 60 stations others have no IEBC stamps and officials signatures. It’s evident the process was not conducted as per the rules. Final tally for 201 polling stations of 207 are as follows; Francis Mureithi 47,582 Babu Owino 46,813,” Mureithi posted on his social media page.

On January 12 2017, the High Court ordered recount and scrutiny of all votes cast in the parliamentary race during the August 8 election in Embakasi East.

The ruling was made in an election petition filed by Owino’s opponent from the Jubilee Party, Francis Mureithi.

IEBC is yet to announce the official and final results.
