NASA makes U-turn on Raila’s swearing-in Venue

The National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition has made a u-turn on its plans to secure a different venue to be used for leader Raila Odinga’s swearing-in ceremony.

As earlier reported by kenyanwiki ,the Opposition coalition had changed its swearing-in venue for fear of unnecessary confrontation with security officers deployed at Uhuru park grounds,in Nairobi.

NASA now says it will hold the controversial ceremony at Uhuru Park which has since been cordoned for renovations.

On Tuesday, a notice was published in local dailies to hereby inform the public that the Grounds is scheduled to undergo phased improvement to enhance usefulness to its visitors.

NASA leadership widely criticised the notice, describing it as “mischievous and abuse” of the Constitution.

The organizing committee, led by NASA chief executive Norman Magaya, insisted that the inauguration would go on at Uhuru Park as planned, and that all Kenyans were invited to attend the event.

“The governor has been under pressure from Jubilee to deny us the facility. We will proceed as if there was no such closure notice,” said Magaya, in reference to Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s announcement.

Magaya said the coalition will proceed to deposit Sh250, 000 to the county government’s bank account since it had already sent an application to book the venue.
NASA had written to Nairobi County, on Tuesday, but the county was yet to respond to the request to use the facility.
