Former CJ,Willy Mutunga Issues a Stern Message to Matiang’i on The Ongoing Protests[Photo]

Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga has issued a stern message to the acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i after he said on his presser that the ongoing protests were organized by criminal gangs rather than Kenyans aggrieved by the Presidential election outcome.

During his address to the press on Saturday,CS Matiangi denied claims that police have been using excessive force and live ammunition to quench ongoing protests in isolated parts of the country.

He added that the police have however been dealing with criminal gangs who have taken advantage of the situation by breaking into other people’s business premises and homes to loot property.

Some criminal elements took advantage of the situation to loot property. The police responded and normalcy has returned in the affected areas. There are no peaceful demonstrations and pickets happening. Criminal gangs…are not demonstrators,” Matiang’i said.

CS Matiangi’s address to the press caught the attention of many including former Chief Justice,Willy Mutunga.

The former CJ,who seemed to have been aggravated by Dr Matiang’i’s statement, took to his Twitter handle and advised him that criminal gangs also have rights-the right to be arrested and charged in court.

Here is was he tweeted;

Police have been using excessive force to quell the protests ,if images and videos circulating on social media are anything to go by.

In Mathare, a 10-year old girl was shot and killed by a stray bullet, however it is not clear yet who fired the shot and who it was meant for.

Protests have been reported in areas of Kibera, Mathare, Siaya, Migori, Kisumu and Dandora.

On Saturday,12th August the NASA lead counsel James Orengo claimed 100 people had been killed so far in the protests but never gave evidence to back his claims.
