Justice Smokin Wanjala has finally come out and responded to questions about his absence at the Supreme court during the delivery of the full judgment on the presidential election petition.
Speaking to the Daily Nation just after he landed back to the country on Sunday night, Judge Wanjala explained he had to accompanied his daughter, who was being admitted to City University of London, in the United Kingdom to study Actuarial Science.

“This is a trip that was planned long before the general elections,” said the judge as quoted by the Daily Nation.
Justice Wanjala was one of the four judges, who concurred with the petitioner’s grievances to annul President Uhuru Kenyatta’s win of August 8th.
He was however conspicuously missing on September 20 when the other judges delivered their full judgement.
Regarding his absence,Chief Justice David Maraga said: “We are five and the case was heard by six judges…Wanjala had to travel out of the country but he has signed the majority judgement.”
CJ Maraga’s explanation did not appease a critical section of Kenyans, who have been demanding to know why Justice Wanjala could not postpone his personal issues for the all important national duty.
