Judge Odunga Finally leaves Milimani Court after rocky Nairobi term

High Court judge George Odunga will finally be reporting to his new work station in Machakos, bringing to an end his tenure at Nairobi’s Judicial Review Division, where his handling of high-profile cases has earned him admirers and critics in equal measure.

Justice Odunga was among the high-profile judges who were issued with transfer letters by Chief Justice David Maraga immediately after last year’s hotly contested General Election. But it took a while for the transfer to be effected.

Mr Odunga has handled some high-profile cases, including those challenging the constitutionality of executive actions, which made him one of the most scrutinized judges at Nairobi’s Milimani Law Courts.

Most of his rulings have attracted the wrath of ruling party parliamentarians who labelled him an ‘activist judge.’
