Journalist Walter Baraza Surrenders to ICC

After five years since he was indicted by the International Criminal Court  for witness tempering in the collapsed case against DP William Ruto,Journalist Walter Baraza now says he will surrender himself to the Hague.

He has since instructed his lawyers to hasten the process of his extradition.
According to The Star,Mr Baraza now looks extremely traumatized and eager to get the ICC yoke behind him.
Baraza now complains of being broke and has been unable to get any formal employment since prospective employers only see the ICC tag and yet to others, he is a Jubilee agent.

“I am not even able to pay rent because nobody is ready to employ me. In Western Kenya where I come from, I am seen as a Jubilee agent,” he told The Star.
In 2013, ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda publicly accused Mr Barasa of working so closely with “a circle of officials within the Kenyan administration” to offer bribes to witnesses to withdraw from the collapsed case against DP Ruto.

ICC issued a warrant of arrest for Baraza in 2013, at a time when DP Ruto’s case was at its apex.
Baraza’s lawyers battled in the Court of Appeal against his handover to ICC after the High Court ruled that he should be extradited.
His about-turn may come as a surprise to many and If extradited, he will be in detention at the Hague as he battles to clear his name.
“The only way to redeem myself is to clear my name from the ICC allegations, erase the wild perceptions from the public and start life with the hope that God will grant me and my family more days.”Baraza noted.
