Detectives probing the tragic crash that claimed Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru have decided to seek assistance from a car dealer and State road agencies.
A team of detectives from both the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and Traffic Police Department are leading the investigation and want vehicle dealers DT Dobie and Tyre manufacturer Pirelli to inspect the ill-fated Mercedes Benz the late Dr Gakuru was traveling in.
According to police,DT Dobie will inspect the crash wreckage to establish if the vehicle was already faulty at the time it was leaving Nyeri for the capital Nairobi.
Transport ministry has been assigned to inspect the scene of the crash at Kabati area, Murang’a County and analyze the guard rails to establish they had been properly installed and their structural integrity.
The vehicle, according to a police report, was fitted with Pirelli Tyres at the time of the accident and the firm will also analyse the wheels to establish if there the Tyre burst before, during or after the car hit guard rails at Kabati.
Initial report on police investigation indicated that the accident was caused by a tyre burst.
Speaking exclusively to The Daily Nation,on Thursday,Central Regional Police boss Gideon Amala has advised against conspiracy theories being circulated on social media, claiming that the governor could have been assassinated.
In one of the unsubstantiated theories being shared on social media,Kenyans allege that Dr Gakuru’s car could have been hit by another vehicle on one side (shown above),causing the driver to lose control and veer-off the road, leading to the grisly accident.
Mr Amala however said:“If anybody feels that they have a theory or any information regarding the accident should forward it to the police.”
“It is insensitive to peddle the information on social media, especially since the family is still mourning.”He added
Eye-brows have also been raised about ‘Chief witness’ Dennis Ngengi, who has always been present at scenes of high-profile accidents, with many Kenyans speculating he might have a hand in the intriguing incidences.
Mr Ngengi was, however, arrested on Thursday night in Naivasha by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation and taken to Nairobi for questioning.
