IEBC Responds after Citizen TV’s Extraordinary Numbers Surpasses Voter Turnout of Fresh Poll

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) was forced to to clear the air after election results being relayed by Citizen TV differed considerably with those being displayed on their official portal.

The Electoral body ,yesterday, distanced itself from poll results being aired by local media houses and clarified that verified results are on its public portal.

In a statement posted on its official Twitter handle, the electoral agency cautioned Kenyans from falling for any unauthenticated results.

Citizen TV later explained that the discrepancy in results they were airing to those in the portal was because the figures on their screens were not from IEBC Portal ,but were as received by their own staff on the ground as announced by IEBC Returning Officers from Form 34Bs.

Local media houses have been forced to come up with their own tallies after the IEBC stated that it would not have provisional results as had been the case in previous elections.

The IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati had initially said in a tweet that the actual figures from 267 constituencies showed 6,553,858 Kenyans had turned out to vote in the repeat presidential poll.

However,Kenyans raised eyebrows when President Kenyatta was reported by Citizen TV to have surpassed the 6.5 million voter turn out, considering about 25 constituencies had not participated in the repeat poll as at this writing.
