Renown political commentator Mutahi Ngunyi has divulged that President Uhuru Kenyatta faces possible impeachment due to the rampant corruption scandals that have already began to taint his second-term in office.
In his weekly analysis dubbed the Fifth Estate, Mr Ngunyi called on the Head of State to handle the issues swiftly before they lead to his likely downfall while still in office.
“Uhuru inherited a government structure with a big appetite for eating. However,we did not elect the NYS director. We don’t elect the NCPB director or the KPC director.
The person we elected is Uhuru Kenyatta. If public funds are stolen, the man who takes responsibility is the President. But not his appointees. He needs to change the civil service for corruption to become history in my view,” Mutahi explained.
His team further opined that Mr Kenyatta was risking impeachment since his strategy of fighting corruption was naive.
“If corruption is the dominant national conversation 6 months after getting to office, it will not die away anytime soon. If the President doesn’t manage it, it will manage him. It has taken over from the Big Four as the legacy project.
“In our view, this is a carefully engineered project to create anger and depict Uhuru as incompetent. All this will be created to give a justification for his impeachment,” one of the scholars stated.
The analysts further faulted President Uhuru for allowing some Kikuyu leaders(a thinly-veiled reference to Nyeri Town MP Wambugu Ngunjiri) for disrespecting his Deputy William Ruto ,an act which they believed would be the reason of his downfall.
They conveyed that if the DP feels that his community is being targeted by the President, he would join forces with Opposition leader Raila Odinga and they would have the numbers to impeach Mr Kenyatta.
“There is a claim that the government is targeting the Kalenjin nation in its anti-corruption crusade in the maize sector.True or not,we must remind Uhuru that politics is about perception.”
“The second perception is about the handshake. This handshake is a ceasefire instrument, but if NASA disengages from the handshake and joins hands with the suspicious Kalenjin nation, then the impeachment of Uhuru in parliament will happen at zero option.”
“If Uhuru does not manage politics, politics will manage him,”the analysts said.
