A Nairobi voter has taken Nairobi governor Mike Sonko to court for nominating Canadian-based Lawyer Miguna Miguna as his deputy.
In an suit filed under a certificate of urgency, voter by the name John Waigi Migwi claims that the City Boss has flaunted the name of Lawyer Miguna for vetting when he does not qualify to be Nairobi’s deputy governor.

“The nominee does not meet the relevant qualifications for vetting and approval to fill the vacancy in the office of deputy governor as he, not a Kenyan citizen nor a member of Jubilee party on which Sonko was elected,” reads Migwi’s application in part.
He claims that the former gubernatorial aspirant is a member of an outlawed group, the national resistance movement(NRM), which is an illegal movement that works with opposition alliance and antagonizes policies of the ruling Jubilee party.
Sonko’s surprise nomination of the vocal activist as his deputy has exposed the weakening bonds within the Jubilee Party.
His unexpected choice of Dr Miguna, a man who is yet to recognized Uhuru Kenyatta as the legitimately elected President, was the clearest indication of the bitter split in the ruling party.

Sonko reportedly made the cheeky stunt without consulting the party’s top leadership.
