A presidential candidate who participated in the August and October Presidential elections has finally broken his silence on the current political stalemate, two months after falling short of his ambitions.

Prof Michael Wainaina (pictured left above) has weighed into the NASA versus Jubilee supremacy battle by openly expressing his admiration of NASA’s call for the ‘peoples’ assembly‘.

“I particularly like the concept of the “peoples’ assembly”, but for different reasons from those proposed by NASA,” he said.

Voicing his opinion on The Saturday Nation, Prof Wainaina said the People’s assembly should be a platform for Kenyans to continuously and vigilantly engage in governance and hold those they elected accountable for the next five years.

“It’s main purpose must be to enable people to participate in governance and to hold their elected leaders accountable,” he said.

Wainana, said the first order of business by the assembly must be to give life to the constitutional provision for recall of all politicians when need be.

“As easily as they were elected, we the people must have the power to recall them if accountability demands we do,” he noted.

The young Professor, however, slight differed with the opposition chief Raila Odinga on his aim to use the People’s Assembly for what he termed as ‘politics of subversion and agitation’.

“We have to realise that Kenya has moved from the era of subversion and agitation to the era of participation and accountability,” the former presidential hopeful added.

14 counties have already passed a motion for the formation of People’s assemblies as the opposition coalition plans to swear-in Mr Odinga as the People’s President early next year.
