“As a rule, the EMB and its head should use the same lawyer in defending them and the head of the EMB should closely monitor the work of the lawyer”,Issack said.
Hassan further emphasized on the need of a defense strategy employed by the EMB (Electoral Management Body).
“Since the lawyer will be speaking for you in court, you must ensure he does not bring his personal bias into your defense,” he added.
He further insisted that the IEBC needs the support of local civil society groups and domestic election observers for the purpose of ensuring parallel vote tabulation as a way for the electoral body to handle claims of election rigging.
“This is especially in close elections where the margin of error is equal to the margin of victory. Their report can support your election results”,he concluded.
Hassan, however, failed to mention any specific lawyers.
The former IEBC chairman has been in Somalia working as a lead consultant with the Somalia’s electoral commission.
NASA and IEBC are set to be engaged in a heated legal tussle in the next two weeks after the opposition files a petition at the supreme court, yesterday mid night, challenging the Presidential election results.
