Royal Media Services proprietor SK Macharia on Friday lost one of his sons, John Macharia, in a fatal road crash along the Southern bypass.
The self-involved accident happened at 10pm when John, who is said to have been speeding lost control of his Porsche 911 Turbo worth Sh13.3 million ($133,850).
He was the first son of SK Macharia with his wife Purity Gathoni Macharia. He had five siblings, two sisters and three brothers.
John was a shrewd business entrepreneur much like his father.
He was the director and founder of Triple A Finance and Direct Line Assurance and he was also the heir apparent to SK Macharia’s estate that includes Royal Media Services, the owners of Citizen TV and radio, Inooro TV and radio and a host of other FM stations.
According to the underwriter’s website, John had over 20 years of experience in the financial services sector in addition to having started other companies in a similar line of business.
“A seasoned entrepreneur, Mr Macharia is credited with introducing insurance premium financing in Kenya having founded and run Triple A Capital Limited.”
“Mr. Macharia is an Executive Director at Harbour Capital with over 20 years experience in the financial services sector,” his company profile read in part.
He holds a degree in Economics and Computer Science from Trent University Ontario Canada.
In 2016,the same vehicle was involved in an accident along Waiyaki Way.
He was later arrested and charged with drink driving.
In the 2016 incident,he was alone in the car, however, in the Thursday night crash he was said to have been in the company of a female passenger who escaped unscathed.
