Election Will Be Postponed-State House Blogger Reveal

On Wednesday, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairman Wafula Chebukati gave the strongest hint that he was ready to quit his job if his demands are not met.

In a press statement from the Bomas of Kenyan, Mr Chebukati looked like a man under siege after disclosing that his efforts to make decisions at the IEBC have been stifled by a majority of commissioners whom he termed as partisan.

Among the conditions he made to guarantee his stay in office were;

-Presidential candidates(Raila and Uhuru) to convene for a meeting he will chair, stop intimidating his staff and let him do his job.

– Staff adversely mentioned as having engineered poll irregularities to step aside and let a seven-man project team he set up to do its job.

However,there might be new developments is what renown state house blogger Robert Alai (pictured above) has said is anything to go by.

The once fierce critic blogger of the Jubilee administration took to his social media pages to announce that postponement of the October 26th election is a possibility.

“Election will be postponed,” Alai said without giving indepth details.

As we all know,Regulation 64 of the Elections (General) Regulations 2012 gives Chebukati, as the Chairman of the IEBC and the Returning Officer of the presidential elections, the power to adjourn a presidential elections.

The power to adjourn can be exercised when a presidential elections are clouded by legal uncertainty,likely to be interrupted by riot, violence, shortage of equipment or other materials, and administrative difficulties.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga declared to be no election on October 26th.A declaration that has so far been adhered to by Governors in NASA strongholds who have since warned the IEBC against conducting the upcoming election in their regions.
What these implies is that there are likely to be running battles and violent protest in NASA strongholds on October 26th.The exercise won’t be smooth.
Whether Chebukati will choose to postpone the election on grounds of a looming showdown or proceed with the exercise, is to be seen in the coming days.
