The preliminary hearing of petitions challenging Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election began on Tuesday on a rather heated note as senior legal minds engaged intensively at the Supreme court of Kenya.
During the hearing, a smart female lawyer, going by the name Julie Soweto, became the subject of attention and admiration as she eloquently made her submissions before the Supreme Court.

Her presence reminded many of a similar appearance by lawyer Kethi Kalonzo during the 2013 Presidential petition.
But what struck the attention of Kenyans during the hearing was when she complained of being bullied during the proceedings by IEBC lawyers for simply being a woman.
Ms Soweto was responding to IEBC lawyer Mahat Somane’s submission when she made the grievous accusation.
”…My Lord let me begin by addressing the question of where we are supposed to go fishing…i think my colleagues are taking advantage of me being a lady…”,Ms Soweto said.
Mr Mahat was trying to explain how 1.6 million voters were not identified biometrically when he rhetorically asked Ms Soweto to ‘fish’ for the same information in the 40 GB hard disk the IEBC had provided her.
Ms Soweto did not take Mahat’s ‘fishing’ comment lightly where she accused him and other IEBC lawyers of being chauvinistic.
