DP Ruto Writes Letter to Kenyans Amid Report of Brewing Tension In Jubilee

Deputy President William Ruto on Wednesday penned a powerful message to Kenyans in the wake of numerous reports of cracks in Jubilee over emerging details of the unity deal President Uhuru Kenyatta made with Opposition Leader Raila Odinga.

In his letter,DP Ruto sought to drive his own call for unity without making any reference to the Uhuru-Raila deal.

The letter, which was published the Daily Nation, the DP promised Kenyans that the government would do all it could to ensure the creation of one million jobs for the youth – through the Jubilee government’s Big Four Agenda.

“We stand by our commitment unequivocally. We also stand by another value we believe in and have championed from day one — and which I want to emphasise again now, in the shadow of our recently unveiled agenda: The shared responsibility we all have for the future of Kenya.”Read part of the letter

Ruto also made references to all the major achievements that the Jubilee regime had achieved since taking power in 2013, noting that such success was the result of unity.

“While the road ahead may be winding, we will deliver — in the same way that we delivered rural electrification, the SGR, free maternal healthcare and education reform, among other commitments. That said, there is also what Kenyans can do and, fortunately for us, Kenyans have shown time and again that they, too, can deliver.”

“We must maintain this spirit beyond the next five years and transmit it to future generations,” ruto said

The statement appears to be a new strategy for the DP to continue with his political agenda despite change in political matrix following Mr Odinga’s truce with the Head of State.

DP Ruto’s allies have already raised the alarm of plans by elites from the Mt Kenya region to scuttle his 2022 presidential ambitions.

Last week at the funeral of the late Kenneth Matiba, President Kenyatta condemned those who were unhappy with the ‘handshake’ ,a message that many political pundits interpreted to be directed at his deputy.
