Citizen TV’s Accidental Display Of UHURU’s Votes Causes Alarm

The Citizen TV station on Saturday caused panic among netizens after it reported erroneous results of the ongoing fresh poll.

The Royal Media owned station caused alarm after purporting that President Uhuru Kenyatta had received 109,938 votes in Mandera West constituency, whereas the constituency has only 26,816 registered voters.

The screenshots of the startling results have since gone viral with many Kenyans asking the Independent Electoral & Boundaries Commission to explain the discrepancy.

However, Citizen TV later came clear and explained the discrepancy, indicating that they had mixed up the results of Mandera West Constituency with those from Bungoma County.

There was an on-air mix-up of results from Bungoma County and Mandera West constituency. The error if highly regretted,” Citizen explained.

The IEBC,through their chair,has since distanced itself from any poll results being circulated on social media and even those being streamed by media houses.

They have advised Kenyans to view verified results on their public portal.
