Chiloba could leave IEBC this weekend

Suna East Member of Parliament, Junet Mohammed(pictured above) who is also the Orange Democratic Movement(ODM) Director of Elections, has revealed that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) is about to make major changes to its staffs with just five days to the repeat presidential election.

Taking to social media on Thursday, October 19, Junet said that Chairman Wafula Chebukati intends on firing his CEO Ezra Chiloba and a number of other officials on the weekend of Saturday, October 21.
“This weekend Chebukati is firing Chiloba & co and parade all the commissioners behind him and says it’s unanimous decision.” read Junet’s post.
However, according to another report by Daily Nation on Friday, October 20, Chiloba “personally decided to take a three-week leave before, during and after the October 26 poll in order to build confidence in stakeholders”. He is expected to begin his leave on Monday, October 23.
These revelation comes after Nasa leader Raila Odinga Thursday morning held a 40-minute meeting with electoral agency chairman Wafula Chebukati, a day after the agency chief listed conditions for his continued stay at the helm of the commission.

Mr Odinga, who was accompanied by his chief agent Musalia Mudavadi, said he was willing to consider participating in a fresh election if his demands were met.

Mr Mudavadi said the ball was in the IEBC’s court.
