The Independent Electoral and Boundaries commission Chairman Wafula Chebukati found himself in a very awkward position after he was sent away from the public hearings on the electoral bills after he went to the meeting without his commissioners.
Mr Chebukati was interjected just before he started making his presentation to the house committees from the National Assembly and the Senate chaired by Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo and Baringo North MP William Cheptumo.
The chairman, however, explained to the committee that with the repeat poll coming up,his commissioners are out in the field busy with its preparations.

But that did not stop Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja from cutting him short.
The Senator questioned the procedure of allowing the IEBC chair to speak alone yet it was the whole commission that had been invited.
“Can the chairman confirm that indeed he has a signed memorandum from the commission? We didn’t invite the chairman of the IEBC. We invited the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission,” said Mr Sakaja as quoted by Nation.
Mr Sakaja asked Mr Chebukati to produce a memorandum signed by the commissioners allowing him to present in the absence of his staff.
He insisted the committee should only deal with signed documents .
“I speak for the commission and if you want the whole commission here, they can come”,Chebukati said when asked about the absence of his commissioners.

Mr Chebukati was asked to return to the meeting at County Hall at 7pm today or earlier, together with the rest of the commissioners or a document showing that the memorandum had been agreed upon by the electoral body.
