Babu Owino Takes Outstanding Early Lead In Vote Recount

On Monday ,The High Court in Nairobi ordered for a recount of all the ballots cast in the Embakasi East constituency election carried out as part of the General Election on August 8,last year.

Justice Joseph Sergon made the order following a petition filed by Francis Mureithi challenging the election of Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino as MP.

Sergon said that he was satisfied that Mureithi had given sufficient reasons to warrant a recount.

The exercise began on Tuesday evening and an elated Babu Owino took to his Facebook page to announce his early lead against his competitor Mr Francis Mureithi.

“So far I’m leading in the recount with 12000 votes followed closely by my unworthy opponent with 4123 votes,” reads Babu’s post.

However, there were mixed reactions from the post with his supporters urging him to keep vigil to ensure no votes are stolen or new ballots introduced during the recount while Mureithi supporters urged Babu to step down even as the recount continues.
