A 30-year-old man was on Friday (29th December) buried alive after a pit he was digging caved in on him at Njegas secondary school in Kirinyaga County.
According to Kirinyaga Central OPCD Yaya Chome, the deceased, Joseph Kangangi, was digging a 20 feet septic tank with a friend who was helping the deceased by collecting soil from the top of the pit while he was inside the pit digging.

Efforts by neighbors to rescue him however turned futile as rescuers had a difficult time digging him out of the 20 feet tunnel.
The OCPD urged residents to be vigilant for loose soil in the area and to always put blocks when digging deep pits.
Body of the deceased was later retrieved and taken to Kerugoya hospital mortuary.
